VINTAGE STYLE HAIR FACINATOR TUTORIAL

Hello My Lovelies!

I hope that this post finds you happy and well!

Just for fun, I thought that I would share with you my tutorial for a Vintage Style Hair Facinator.
The best part is, that you can choose whatever fabric and trimmings you like...just to make it your own! But most of all, have LOADS of FUN with it! The possibilities are endless!

STEP 1

Gather your supplies:
          • Milinary Frame (available in Spotlight stores)
          • Fabric Fat Quarter for top design
          • Velevet or other fabric you have lying around for the base
          • Ribbon
          • Lace
          • Tulle flower motif
          • Diamonte button/ Bead element of choice
          • Hot glue gun
          • Glue sticks
          • 2 Alligator Hair Clips

FACINATOR TOP

STEP 2

Place the milinary frame on top of the main fabric.
This is to make sure that your fabric
piece is big enough to cover the frame.

STEP 3

Place the frame upside down on the wrong side of the fabric.
Align one fabric corner with the rear of the base.

STEP 4

Starting at the rear, using the hot glue gun, glue the fabric corner
to the underside of the frame. This will give you stability
when you cut around your fabric.

STEP 5

Cut around the frame following its shape, leaving enough fabric
allowance for wrapping and glueing the fabric onto the facinator base.
I used pinking shears to prevent the
edges from fraying, but normal sissors are also OK.
As you can see, your cutting does
 not have to be perfect!!!

STEP 6

To wrap...BEGIN by glueing  the fabric to the opposite tip.
Continue to glue the remaining fabric to the underside of the base,
being careful to keep the top of your facinator fabric free from creases.
It does not matter how messy the underside is as it will be covered.

... Now you have the top of your facinator covered.

 STEP 7

Hot glue lace around the top rim of the facinator
by starting at the rear and working your way around.
You should finish where you started.

STEP  8

To make a bow, take a length of ribbon and fold it in half.
Open it back up again to find the fold line.

Using hot glue, create a glue line along the centre fold...

... attach one end of you ribbon piece to it.

REPEAT the process for the other end of the ribbon.
 You now have a Bow!

STEP 9

To attach your Ribbon Bow, to the rear of your
facinator base, run another length of hot glue down the centre
seam of the bow.

...attach your Ribbon Bow to the
rear of your facinator.

STEP 10

Glue your flower motif...

... to the middle of your bow.

STEP 11
Cut two short ribbon pieces...

... Attach them with hot glue to the centre of the flower motif.

... Glue a beaded element to the centre of the flower motif,
covering the ends of the ribbon.

The TOP of your Vintage Style Hair Facinator
 is now completed!!! Woohoo!

NOW FOR THE UNDERSIDE...

STEP 12

Using pattern or tracing paper, trace the shape of the underside
of the facinator base. Cut out the the shape, and use it to trace
and cut out the fabric that will be glued on the underside of
the base. I used a stretch red velvet to
match the red cherries on the upperside!

STEP 13

Match the shape of the cut fabric to the base.
Beginning at the front tip, hot glue the edges of the fabric to the
rim of the base, a small bit at a time, until you get all the way around.

Don't worry if it does not match perfectly, as all joins will be covered with ribbon.

STEP 14

Using a thin ribbon, hot glue it around the inside rim to hide the fabric edges.

STEP 15

Attach alligator clips to each end of the facinator base
with hot glue. I like to use two clips instead
of one, as it provides more stability when the facinator is
attached to the hair.

... Then... hot glue ribbon strips to the inside of each clip and to the
fabric base. This firmly secures the clips in place.

STEP 16

FINALLY... Add your label (if you have one)...

...And VOILA! You are FINISHED!!!

I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial, and I can't wait to see your
WONDERFUL CREATIONS!!!
Please send me some pics of your own designs!

Blessings!
